Planning Dental Implant Surgery

Precise Dental Implant Planning:

Cone Beam Computed Tomography Scan (CBCT) is done to get a detailed 3D view of your jaw for planning your implant surgery. Having a complete picture of the patients anatomy is vital.

Your dental implant treatment starts well before the day of your implant surgery. In fact, Dr. Nugent does most of the work ahead of time. Meticulous planning prior to surgery leads to safer, better, faster and minimally invasive procedure.

Data collected to plan your dental implant treatment includes:

  •  Digital X-rays and CBCT scan (3D X-rays)
  •  Digital external and intraoral pictures
  •  Impressions of your teeth or missing spaces
  • The state of your oral health currently

Guided Dental Implant Surgery

Dr. Nugent uses the 3D X-ray to identify available bone height and width, the state of your gum tissue and to document where the nerves, sinus cavity and other anatomical structures are. Using advanced 3D software, Dr. Nugent can then evaluate if you will need bone grafting to provide enough bone to place a dental implant and he will know the exact angle in which to place the implant. This is all possible because of 3D implant planning software that allows Dr. Nugent to “digitally” perform your dental implant surgery.

Once Dr. Nugent has virtually mapped where he will be placing the dental implant a surgical guide is printed in office on a 3-D printer. The guide is then placed over the teeth and gums to guide the implant surgery into the precise position. Guided surgery is comfortable, efficient, and more precise than just “free handing” and “eye balling” the surgery.

Dental Implants:

Dental implants are the gold standard when replacing teeth. Bridges and partial dentures have numerous problems. Dental implants eliminate ALL the problems and limitations of older tooth replacement options. Dental implants will never get decay or need a root canal. Furthermore, dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that stimulate and preserves the jaw bone. Lastly, dental implants are the longest lasting tooth replacement option.
