Pasadena, Deer Park Dental Implant Dentist:
Dental implants are the longest lasting and best way to replace missing teeth. One of the more popular dental treatment options in the past was a bridge. A bridge is merely crowned tooth supporting a fake tooth that is floating on top of the gum tissue. In order to place a bridge the dentist has to permanently damage healthy teeth by grinding away tooth structure to make room for the bridge. Further disadvantages of old fashioned bridges include 1) the fake tooth does not stimulate bone or gum tissue 2) Aggressive cutting of healthy teeth can lead to nerve death and then root canal treatment 3) Bridges usually fail in ten to fifteen years because of decay or root canals gone bad.
Dental implants have none of the negative aspects of old fashioned bridge. Dental implants do not damage adjacent teeth. Furthermore, dental implants can never get decay and will never need a root canal. Implants are designed to last a lifetime.
Failed Bridge, Two Implants Save the Day

Bad news for this patient. She had a special bridge called a cantilever bridge. The two support teeth were up front and the fake tooth floated off the backside. The front tooth rotted out (shown in orange) and had an infection (shown in green). The forward support tooth was a nice healthy tooth until it got cut down for the bridge. Now the support tooth has catastrophically failed. Dental Implants to the rescue!
Dr. Nugent to the rescue! It was determined that the best treatment option was to extract the failed front support tooth and replace it with a dental implant. Also, the back missing tooth would be restored with a dental implant.
