Deer Park Texas: Dental Implants
A dental implant in simple terms is a synthetic tooth root which is positioned into/onto your jawbone to hold a replacement tooth, dental crown or a dental bridge. The implant is made out of medical grade titanium. Dental implants are ideal for those people who may have a lost a tooth/teeth as a result of decay, gum disease or trauma.
If you have good general health, adequate jaw bone to support the implant and healthy gums then dental implants might be ideal for you. Dr. Nugent will take a 3-D conebeam X-ray to fully visualize the volume of bone present. Then Dr. Nugent will digitally place your dental implant on the 3-D X-ray in order to insure the implant will not perforate any anatomical structures.
Dr. Nugent will evaluate your 3D Xray and work with a complex dental implant program to digitally plan your case.
Dental Implant Surgery
Firstly, Dr. Nugent will place the implant beneath the gum tissue. As the bone heals over the course of several months the dental implant bonds with your jawbone. The fusion of dental implant to bone is called Osseointegration.
Secondly, an abutment, post connecting the replacement tooth to the implant, is attached to implant when tissue has healed. Lastly, a replacement tooth is made and attached to the abutment.
