Lose a tooth? Suffering from loose dentures?
Dental implants offer patients the ability to once again have functional and attractive teeth. For denture wearers, dental implants can work as anchors. The old-time rock and roll dentures will be a thing of the past. Imagine eating your favorite foods again.
Dr. Nugent offers affordable dental implants for Pasadena and Deer Park without sacrificing excellent quality.
What is a dental implant?
Let’s start with a few basics. Every natural tooth in your mouth has two primary parts, one visible and one hidden (but very important). The visible part is the crown, the white enamel-covered portion which you commonly call your tooth. But an equally important part of a tooth is its “root”, the part of the tooth under the surface of your gums, which supports and connects the tooth into the jaw bone.
A dental implant replaces the root with a titanium cylinder. Dental implants became possible with the discovery in the 1960’s that a titanium screw, inserted into bone became fused to that bone. This fusion-induced stability (osseointegration) allows a tooth’s crown (the visible part) to later be placed on the dental implant, looking and functioning almost identically to a natural tooth
A fully restored dental implant has three parts. The three parts of a dental implant are the titanium dental implant, abutment and the crown.
Why are dental implants recommended replacements for missing teeth?
A dental implant with an abutment and crown placed on it looks, functions and feels just like your own natural tooth. With good patient maintenance, implants can last a lifetime.
