Deer Park Texas Dental Implant Bridge:
Dental Bridges are old fashioned and have many negative aspects. Unfortunately, dentists still recommend bridges. The dentist is either not trained in dental implants, prefers to do it like he/she has always done it , or the dentist prefers the immediate revenue a bridge provides. In order to place a bridge, healthy teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth must be aggressively cut down. The removed tooth structure can never be replaced. The dental bridge now splints teeth together. The most common reasons for bridges to fail are due to new decay on anchor teeth and failed root canals. Bridges are hard to clean because the crowns are all fused together. The support teeth will get decay and create enormous dental and financial problems. Furthermore, dental bridge teeth must be aggressively cut down to make room for the bridge. This aggressive cutting of the tooth often leads the tooth needing a root canal. If/when the root canal fails there is once again a huge dental and financial problem. Another problem of bridges is that bridges do nothing to stimulate bone levels. Once a tooth is lost the bone will start to erode away and the bone loss will continue forever.
Here is an X-ray of a patient that came to me from another dentist. She received a bridge that replaced one single tooth. However, the bridge has fused four teeth together. The blue line represents the bone loss because of the dental bridge. The yellow line represents where the bone levels should be. The green shows the decay on the anchor tooth. This bridge is failing and now a large dental problem and financial problem is created all because a bridge was used instead of a dental implant.
Dental Implants are the most advanced way to replace missing teeth. Dental implants do not require the cutting down of healthy adjacent teeth. Dental implants are independent of the adjacent teeth. This means patients brush and floss their implant tooth just like normal. Dental implants will never get decay and will never need a root canal. Dental implants stimulate and preserve bone levels.
