Dental Implants:
- Meet with Dr. Nugent to discuss your concerns. As a team devise a plan to get you back to optimal dental health.
- Have a 3-D scan taken of you jaw. This scan will allow tell Dr. Nugent if the case can be completed here in the office or if Dr. Nugent’s oral surgeons will have to help on the case.
- Have the implant placed.
- Once the bone has fused with the implant (usually about 3 to 4 months) you will return to Dr. Nugent’s office for impressions. These impressions allow the dental lab to make a custom abutment and beautiful porcelain crown.
- Have your new implant finished. Enjoy having a tooth that looks, feels and functions like a natural tooth.
Teeth Considerations
Front Tooth: For patients that loose a front tooth either a flipper (temporary partial denture) or a temporary crown is made. These two treatments are worn while the bone is fusing to the implant and spares the patient of having to go without a front tooth. Once the implant has fused with the bone the permanent cosmetic porcelain crown is made.
Back Tooth: Usually a back tooth is not in the smile zone. Therefore, as a cost saving measure no temporary tooth is made. On occasion, a patient will want a temporary tooth placed. This is also accomplished with a flipper or temporary crown.
Do Dental Implants Hurt?
Dental Implant Journey:

Sad News for the patient as she has a failing bridge. Usually bridges have the fake tooth in between the real teeth. This bridge had the two real teeth forward and a fake tooth was hanging off the end. As usual an old fashioned bridge failed due to decay.
Patient received a 3-D scan so the position of the dental implants can be decided. The decayed tooth taken out and two dental implants placed.
Once the implants and bone had fused Dr. Nugent started the fabrication processes to restore the dental implants. This entails complex dental impressions and a skilled lab.
