Dental Implant Description

Dental Implants are the most advanced way to replace missing teeth.

They are secured in the jaw bone to provide permanent support for crowns and dentures.

Dental Implant PartsThe most common use of a dental implant is to replace a single missing tooth. The fully restored dental implant is comprised of three parts.

Implant: The titanium cylinder that is placed in the jaw bone. The bone fuses to the titanium and replicates a natural tooth root.

Abutment: The abutment screws into the implant and serves as the foundation for the cosmetic porcelain crown.

Crown: The beautiful porcelain crown mimics a natural tooth.

The beauty of a dental implant is that it mimics nature. First of all, the implant is anchored in the jawbone just like natural teeth. Secondly, the abutment comes out of the gum tissue just like natural teeth. Finally, the all porcelain crown looks just like natural teeth. Therefore, dental implants look, feel and function like natural teeth.

No!!! Dental implants do not hurt! Almost all of Dr. Nugent’s dental implant surgery patients skip their prescription pain medication and just use over the counter medicine like Advil or Tylenol. There is little to no post surgery pain!

Why Do Dental Implants Work?

Dental Implants are designed to mimic natural teeth. Teeth start from the jawbone and come out of the gum tissue. In the case of dental implants, the titanium implant is surgically placed into the jawbone. There the bone will grow up to and around the implant. This locks the dental implant into place. Now the dental implant can be used to replace a single tooth, used for a dental implant bridge, implant dentures or All-on-Four.

Dental implants are placed into the jaw bone. There the bone grows up to and fuses to the implant in a processes called Osseointegration.
